Double Defeat On The Road!

Double Defeat On The Road!

Fran Derbyshire23 Oct 2023 - 08:50

A difficult day for both teams, time to bounce back!

It was a long day of travelling for the first team. We did unfortunately suffer yet another serious injury to one of our players after another nasty challenge. This could have been avoided if the referee had control of the game. The bad and late tackles were a regular occurrence to the point some players wanted to walk off the pitch and abandon the game.

We also had some players coming back from injury yesterday as well which was great, but we really can’t wait for a game to be completed without sustaining some form of injury to one of our squad members! We’ve never known luck like it!

However our players did come up against an extremely physical, tough and well established division 1 side in Shanklin who rightly took the 3 points on the day. The players didn’t retaliate to any of the incidents and kept trying to play our football throughout and for that I am one proud manager.

When you’re not on your A game from the off this Divison will punish you, safe to say we’re learning and growing as group each game. A harsh reminder of what Division 1 can be like after stepping up from Division 3.

Player of the match- Hannah Burrows who put her body on the line on more than one occasion and defended brilliantly.

Time to bounce back quickly as a group.

Shanklin Ladies 5-0 GBLFC 1st

Meanwhile our development team travelled to Romsey in a league encounter.

Managers comments:

The ladies had a really difficult pitch to contend with today a pitch that I feel should never have been played on. However we went out and left everything on the field they showed how much they have improved over the last few months. Went into half time 2 down but both goals coming against the run of play. Come back out in the second half and got a quick goal that was taken very well by Kathryn Heathers. As we were pushing for our second goal we got caught out by some good play by Romsey for there 3rd.

I couldn’t be any more proud of the ladies and it’s a pleasure working with them all on a weekly basis. To see how far they have all come and each game you can see the massive improvements is amazing.

Today we couldn’t split two players for POTM so it was decided that Sarah Rodwell and Casey Galyer were both award POTM. We move on to our next game keep building on what we have as a team.
- Kiefer Oldfield

Captains comments:

“Super proud of the ladies today, adapted and pushed right to the end, even on a pitch which was definitely unplayable we felt. They never gave up, and we definitely played the better football. So much confidence going into our match with Romsey at home!”
