Hanwell Town take all 3 points from the AEI Stadium

The match between 15th and 16th in the Southern League Premier Division started promisingly for the hosts, as Brad Tarbuck made way down the right flank and got an early cross into the box inside the first 15 seconds, although the effort didn’t reach the target men in the middle.

From then onwards the attention turned chiefly to Hanwell Town as the visitors kept the majority of possession. The majority of danger coming from Daniel Carr on the left flank, troubling Patrick O’Flaherty to a save down to his right at the near post.

In the 10th minute, Boro’ failed to clear a corner and the ball fell to Kain Adom in space on the right side, but his delivery sprung over the bar and away from danger.

Gosport stepped up the pressure through the wings 20 minutes into the game. The ball was fed through to Bradley Tarbuck on the right side of the penalty area, but his effort hit the side-netting.

Mark Molesley was forced into an early substitution just after the half-hour mark, as Noa Boutin couldn’t continue following a knock. Tyrese Dyce replaced him for his Gosport Borough debut.

Right before the half-time whistle blew, Isaac Olorunfemi swung in a deep cross from the edge of the field, and the ball landed on the top of the bar of O’Flaherty’s goal. The rebound shot from 3 yards somehow went wide of the post, and thus concluded the first half goalless.

The start of the second 45’ showed further intent from the visitors, as the Boro’ defence were called upon to clear a shot off the line following a corner.

The deadlock however was broken on 50 minutes as Matthew Mackenzie rose highest and got enough on a lofted ball into the box, flicking it past O’Flaherty to open the scoring.

Boro’ attempted to come back with an answer quickly, and had the perfect chance to do so. Dan Wooden rounded the keeper when he came up one-on-one, but the tight angle prevented him from keeping the end product on target, and the ball went sailing over.

Shortly after the hour mark Tom McElroy was fed through on goal one-on-one with O’Flaherty. The striker slotted the ball calmly into the right corner to double the lead.

The result drops Gosport Boroughi into 17th with 4 points clear of the drop zone.
