A first half masterclass, secures the three points for BORO!
Coming off of a poor result against Harrow, Gosport seemed desperate to seek redemption. Since the game, we have seen three new players come through the door (2/3 in the squad against Dorchester) including former Magpies man - Alfie Stanley. Dorchester also had some familiar players, one being Jonny Efedje who departed the club earlier in the season.
It wasn’t the liveliest of starts, as the opening 10’ saw few shots. Dorchester did have an early free-kick which was drilled straight into the Gosport wall but we were yet to see an effort on goal.
Well I must have jinxed myself when writing the previous tweet as Gosport broke the deadlock a minute later. Good work from Debutant Cope and Tarbuck won Gosport a corner. From the corner, A Kavanagh cross found the head of Dan Wooden who headed home to get the goals underway!
Following the goal, Harry Kavanagh scored an absolute screamer to make it two! The defender transferred into the left wing position before unleashing a rocket into the top corner to make it two.
Gwengwe did try to claw one back for the home-side, and after going for goal teammate - Spetch stood infront of the ball ended up blocking his own teammate’s shot which would have seen a good shot on goal if not deflected.
Dorchester really needed that effort to go in, as moments later BORO’ made it three. Wooden played a lovely through ball into Cope who did well to get his shot across but Horlick deflected the effort to Ramos. Rafa smashed one at the crossbar, but like a boomerang the ball came back to the Portuguese who buried it into the net to make it 3-0
Just before half-time Koszela in the left hand channel put in a deep cross picking out Fletcher yards in front of goal. The attacker struggled to connect with the ball as he glanced the effort wide. With the whistle sounding seconds later:
HT: Dorchester 0-3 Gosport
Gosport did start the second half with some new faces, as Lucias Vine and Hookey both entered the pitch. But despite the changes, the bulk of the shots came from Dorchester in the second half.
On the 62nd minute Koszela stormed down the left hand channel, whipping a ball into former BORO’ man Jonny Efedje who took aim towards the top corner. Good positioning from Toby allowed him to reach the ball and tip it out.
BORO’ were close to making it four, after Williams thread a ball into Tarbuck. Shortly after receiving the ball the winger pinged one into Ramos at the back post, with Ramos slotting inches wide.
After playing the 90’ minutes of normal time, the referee added on an additional eight minutes. The first opportunity in the additional minutes, fell to Moore who blasted one over the BORO’ bar from 20 yards out.
Finalising the game, Vine had the last chance. It was Tarbuck who sent Vine one-on-one against Horlick, with the winger rolling his shot wide of the right post.
Full time: Dorchester 0-3 Gosport
Definitely one of the best first half performances I’ve seen in a long time from BORO, with the game being pretty much over when the first half ended. Potentially a massive three points in our playoff push and a big game up next as we host Salisbury. Final words from me: UP THE BORO!!!
