BORO’ end season in an exciting four goal thriller.
Gosport travelled away to Gloucester City, a team who had already guaranteed a playoff spot, for our final game of the season.
Despite nothing really to play for, Gosport were given a roaring welcome when fans greeted the players’ coach with a mass of yellow and blue clouds. Many of the City’ fans would go on to say this was the best away following they had seen all the season…
Game-wise in the first minute Liam Cross made a darting run into the Gosport box before pulling back into Harry Burns at the back post, the winger tapped home to give ‘the tigers’ the early lead. 1 - 0
City showed exactly why they were in the playoffs ten minutes later when they cushioned their lead. Curtis Hutson’s aerial pass found the head of defender Joe Morrison who looked to have glanced a header into the back of his own net. A very unfortunate goal to concede. 2 - 0
This early set back increased the motivation into the team to go and try and find a goal to get Gosport back into the game. On the twenty minute mark, Brad Tarbuck on the edge of the six yard box let a shot rip with a trajectory towards the top corner. Thompson got a strong right hand to tip it out for a corner.
Nnamdi Nwachuku was the next player to have a go at goal as the Gosport-man comfortably skipped past Emett seeing him through on goal. A quick paced shot forced Thompson to get down low to make another save.
With 27 G/As to his name, Asher Yearwood would be the player to get us back into this game. Arriving at the back post totally unmarked saw him get onto the ball, rocketing home for BORO’ to get us back in contention.
Half-Time: Gloucester 2-1 Gosport
The first big opportunity for Gosport came midway through the second half, with a positive run by Harry Lee down the wing, who passed a ball into Alfie Stanley and the substitute quickly switched the ball onto Yearwood. Looking for his second of the game, Asher’s volley flew just over!
BORO’ were given a penalty ten minutes before the ninety. Hollands with a ball flicked over the City back line picked out Yearwood. Emett took out Yearwood as the referee pointed to a penalty, the referee also sent off the defender… Like last week, Yearwood steps up and fires home for BORO’ to put us on level terms.
This was enough to warrant a late point as it finished:
Full-Time: Gloucester 2-2 Gosport
I think it’s fair to say it’s been a turbulent season but overall an enjoyable one. We look forward to seeing you guys next season, and roll on 2025-26. Final words from me for this season: UP THE BORO!!!
