GBYFC U15's lifted the Mid Solent league cup last night after a nail biting match against Baffin’s Milton Rovers at Havant & Waterlooville’s West leigh Park Stadium
It was the teams first trophy win after finishing 2nd in the league to Havant & Waterlooville. What made this trophy a little more special is it was the same cup the team got to the final of last year before the Covid lock down stopped the football.
After beating league winners Havant in the cup semi final in a tense 3-2 win the boys had it all to do again, and in the great Gosport Borough tradition we didn’t make it easy on ourselves
The team got off to a great start with an early 2 -0 lead with chances from both teams, and at half time the lads were buzzing.
Baffin’s scored early in the second half to make it 2-1. and then with 20 minutes remaining scored an equaliser to make it 2-2
With just 7 minutes of the game left a ball forward from Gosport was not cleared well by the Baffin’s defence and Alfie Hilton pinched the ball off the defender. Laying it off to Oli Mahoney who played the ball to the right side of the 18 yard box for Aiden Farndell to take one touch before burying the shot past the keeper scoring the winning goal to secure a 3-2 win and the trophy.
At the final whistle the celebrations and relief of the players was evident and there were smiles all round. Their ability and attitude showed what a great group of lads they all are and what a team this is.
