BORO’ Bow Out of the FA Trophy

Report by James McIntosh

BORO’ bow out of the FA trophy after a 3-0 defeat against Bognor Regis!

Within the early couple of minutes, Bognor gave us an earlier taster of what could perhaps come tonight. The Dorking midfielder on loan at Bognor - Rutherford hit a shot from Distance, forcing Steward into making an early save and deflecting it out for a throw-in.

At the other end of the pitch, Gosport tried something similar, with this effort stemming from Alex Barsa. Around 18 yards out from goal, The Czech forward smashed a ball over the Bognor bar!

On the 20th minute, Corey Jordan denied Bognor from snatching a lead. Initially gifting a ball to Douglas, the midfielder transferred the ball onto Gifford who went for goal, however Jordan redeemed himself by getting back and clearing the shot off of the line!

Danny Hollands was the next player to have a crack at goal! On the left foot, Hollands dished out a shot towards goal. Hall had to get down low, to push it out for a BORO’ corner!

But despite both teams having good starts, it would be the home side to get the goals underway! A good run allowed for Livesey-Austin to hit a shot across the goaldeck. Quick reactions saw Steward stop the initial chance, however the rebound fell to Gifford who lobbed it past the goaline to make it 1-0

It was the post to deny the BORO’ equaliser! Diaz worked his magic, playing a ball into Wooden. A good turn separated the striker from the Bognor defender, and Wooden fired a ball towards goal but the effort slammed against the Bognor post!

If this didn’t put a frown on BORO’ fans faces, the next action definitely did! A late challenge saw Harry Kavanagh slide into Whyte and with the poor pitch conditions it sent Kavanagh sliding a bit faster than he would have initially planned. As a result Kavanagh saw a straight red and Gosport went down to ten men!

Steward would be needed again before the half concluded with Rutherford brushing a low-driven shot towards the BORO’ goal. Steward was forced into making another save to keep the score:

Half time: Bognor Regis 1-0 Gosport

Straight into the second half, Gosport were introduced to a Dan Gifford solo run! Marching into the BORO’ box, the former Pompey man eventually found himself in front of goal; finishing the attack, the striker wrapped his boot around the ball to curl a ball into the top corner to cushion the lead!

Moments later, the next chance finished off the game! Bognor were instantly after another goal, and launched an attack after Gosport kicked-off! A corner, found Robson at the back post and the Bognor man delivered a bullet header past Steward to make it three!

Pat and Joe added Ramos and Efedje to try and fix the problem, and the subs were involved with the next effort! Barsa placed a ball into Ramos, sending the forward past the Bognor defence. But positioning favoured the Bognor keeper which ultimately allowed him to make a save to deny Ramos and a Gosport goal!

Both teams had one final effort at goal! Bognor’s final effort saw Davis aim a ball towards the bottom corner from range, and another brilliant save from Steward tipped it out for a corner, to deny the ball from reaching the goaline!

And Gosport finished off the half, by having a ball roll past Hall in the last minutes of the game. An attack eventually led to Efedje slotting a ball post Hall, however the goal wouldn’t stand with Efedje being stood in an offside position.

Full time: Bognor Regis 3-0 Gosport

It was probably safe to say, the red card was the downfall of BORO’s performance tonight. But excluding that, nothing can be taken away from Bognor’s win tonight. We wish them all the best for the season, but for us, it’s back to the league now! with a game away at Mark Molesley’s Hayes & Yeading.

Final words from me. UP THE BORO
