A brace from Brett Williams and a goal each from Wooden and Kaba were not enough to bring back even a point from Yate Town on Saturday afternoon.

Dan Wooden opened the scoring inside the first minute. “When you score in 23 seconds, you think this has got off to a better start. We then controlled the first 10 - 15 minutes” says Kneller.

The hosts however hit 3 in the space of 10 minutes, and Boro’ fell 3-1 behind thinking the game is slipping away, until Brett Williams pounced on a Yate mistake in their own half, and rounded the keeper to reduce the deficit to just one on the stroke of half-time.

The 62nd minute saw Williams net his third in two games and level the scoring. “At 3 -3 you’re asking not for the same situation as against Chesham, you just want to see the game out” says the Boro' boss, but Yate were able regain the lead with a powerful strike into the far corner from Kyle Tooze just a minute after.

“Again we’re then attacking and got a lot of the ball. We made a lot of substitutions which I felt impacted the game."

Hard work and creativity in attack however was undone by Zachary Drew in the 70th when he took advantage of a Boro’ defensive error and extended the scoring to 5-3, netting the 8th goal of the match for the 196 in attendance.

“Yea it’s great for everyone watching, and I can’t believe I’m saying it, but we attacked really well, that’s what I can say.

“We got forward really well, we broke in numbers and we created chances but you can’t defend like that - it was individual errors again.

“We’ve scored 6 goals in 2 games - 4 away from home and 2 at home, and not taken away a point from either. It’s not acceptable. It’s not good enough.

“A few things have been changed internally and tweaked for the better, but now we’ve changed system and the way we approach it, we can’t just continue to look at everything else - we’ve got to look at ourselves. It must only be a mentality problem and a personnel problem.

“Unfortunately there’s going to need to be some new players brought in - I think the two I’ve brought in have done well. Brett Williams has got 3 in 2 [goals] which is great for any striker.

“Medway made a mistake for the goal but other than that he was pretty solid, and players are going to make mistakes, I understand that but some of these are just real basics that we’ve got to be better at, so as far as I’m concerned there’s no excuses as to why we haven’t got the result.

“Having scored 4 goals in a game, that should now give us the ability go right, we’ve fixed one problem, we need to now fix the next problem.

“It’s not through the will of not trying, but it’s down to myself and the staff to go right, what’s next?...We need to stop conceding goals. We’re not making people work for them - we are gift-wrapping goals. We are honestly giving them away at free will, and it’s not acceptable.

Despite returning from Gloucestershire empty-handed, Kneller’s side have brought the game to the opponents and set their intentions on fluidity and creativity in recent performances.

“On the whole do I think we’ve got better over the last couple of weeks? Yes, but it’s irrelevant, because we need results. I’d take a nightmare of a performance for a 1-0 result any day” as summarises by the Boro’ boss.

Kneller is hopeful of strengthening the squad even further after Medway and Williams arrived from Totton last week, and suggests developments are likely to take place in the coming week.

“There’s conversations being had today, and there will be conversations had over the next couple of days, and we’ll look to bring in whatever it is we feel will strengthen our squad, whether for the short-term of the long term.

Gosport Borough’s next match is against Tiverton Town this coming Saturday 3rd December, at the earlier kick-off time of 12:30pm.
