Gosport Borough 3 - 0 Tiverton Town - Another Clean Sheet

Report by James McIntosh

Gosport continue their strong form after another impressive display against Tiverton.

It looks like Gosport have started to find form, with new players gelling and results being securing the points. Most recently running rampant against Wessex League opposition Andover New Street in a 4-0 victory. As for the visitors they have lacked any sort of consistency, being knocked out of the FA Cup and picking up a mere two points from six games.

They say don’t look too much into past form/results however it was shaping out to be how many fans predicted, with Gosport taking the early lead within 13 minutes. A free-kick was played short into Kavanagh right of the penalty box with the right-back passing into Stanley who tucked the ball past Pagel to make it 1-0

Ten minutes later BORO’ cushioned their lead. Nice build up play saw Yearwood lay one across into Tarbuck just outside of the box. With no Tiverton players in front of the midfielder, the winger slashed one into the bottom corner to cushion the lead!

Inform Yearwood did try to grab a goal for himself after dancing past the Tiverton defence before cutting inside; trying to chip Pagel but the shot just wasn’t high enough to cause any damage.

Half-Time: Gosport 2-0 Tiverton

Yearwood had a great chance to grab that goal he was looking for. Through on goal he tried driving a shot into the far corner but Patel’s right boot did just enough to keep it out.

However it was the visitors who started taking a grip on the game for the next twenty minutes, desperately scrambling to claw a goal back. Left-Back Jones was striding down the channel before playing a cross against the face of goal, narrowly skimming the boot of an outstretched Parker. If contact had been made it would have surely resulted in a goal.

Parker continued causing damage with a late chance seeing him in a great position with just keeper Evans in front of him. Even with the time the striker rushed his’ shot, dragging one wide in a real wasted opportunity.

Despite doing little in the second half, Gosport signed off their win in the 95th minute. A diving Dutchy Hollands set Stanley through on goal who blasted a rocket into the top corner in one of the best finishes all season in an already goal of the season contender.

Full-Time: Gosport 3-0 Tiverton Town

Despite the second half lacking the same entertainment value of the first half, the game made for a brilliant watch. Three great goals and a result in which we will be sure to build momentum. Up next are two home cup games, so we’ll see you then, but final words from me: UP THE BORO!!!
